Right to Buy

Right to Buy is a scheme for existing council tenants which enables them to buy their homes at a discounted price.

To be eligible for the Right to Buy, you must:

  • Be a council tenant, or have been a council tenant when your home was sold to your current landlord
  • Have been a social tenant (tenant of any council or housing association) for at leat 3 years
  • Not live in sheltered or other specialist housing for elderly or disabled people

If you meet these criteria then you may be eligible for the scheme.

How much discount will I get?

The discount you get will depend on where you live (whether inside or outside London) and how many years you have been a social tenant. You can calculate your potential discount here: Right to Buy discount calculator

How do I apply?

To apply you will need to complete a Right to Buy Application Form and send it to your landlord. Sutton Housing Partnership deal with Right to Buy applications, not the council.
