Older People’s Accommodation - formerly known as Sheltered Accommodation - is housing for people aged 55 and over who want or need to live independently among people their own age and have minimal support needs. The accommodation consists of self-contained flats and studios, and there may be communal areas such as a lounge or IT room to provide opportunities for the residents to socialise. There are a few schemes with wardens on site during office hours, but the majority do not and there is no care element included, so this type of housing is not suitable for those who need on site carers.
Older People’s Accommodation in Sutton is provided by Sutton Housing Partnership and several housing associations. The majority of properties are let via the housing register but there are also several housing associations with their own waiting lists.
